Student Auxiliary Officers
In addition to full-time positions, using students to supplement full-time police and security personnel has proven to be an excellent way of providing many routine services while giving many students meaningful employment. During the fall and spring semesters, approximately 160 students are employed as Student Auxiliary Officer, while during the summer semester the unit employs 60 to 80 students.
Student Auxiliary Officer Hiring Process
You can submit your application by going to www.psu.jobs , applying for the corresponding job - (AO) Student Auxiliary Officer - and submitting the necessary information, which will then be reviewed to ensure that you are a suitable candidate for the position.
If you qualify, you will be be contacted for interview. Additional hiring processes will be reviewed at that time.
Once you are hired you are assigned to a probationary status for 50 hours. During your probationary status you will receive several hours of training in your assigned duties, security procedures, and department and University policies. At the end of the probation period you will be tested on materials covered in your training. Upon successful completion of this test, you will be able to train for specialty duties such as cone and barricade setup, securing buildings, and patrolling in the downtown State College area.
